LOOKINGGLASS VR

LookingGlassVR is a programme of creative Virtual Reality one-day workshop sessions aimed at schools, colleges and appropriate team-building environments.

 

Art2VR works with learning leaders and support staff to define a creative project relevant to the school curriculum, and then facilitates and leads the workshop activity with pupils/students in a classroom environment.

 

Pupils get hands-on with the Art2VR ‘ViveStation’, combining HTC’s class-leading Vive VR system with new portable and cable-free technology that allows the user to move and work freely. They work  at their own, numbered station in the LookingGlass Garden (see below) - a dedicated virtual environment.

Meanwhile, other pupils can share the view of the evolving artwork on the main screen in the classroom.

Art2VR will co-ordinate other activities with the classroom teacher in advance.

 

  • Maybe preparatory topic work, to help plan and guide creations in VR?

  • Or maybe use Art2VR's handheld viewers to wander through a range of famous artists' work, re-imagined as VIRTUAL REALITY WORLDS?

VIRTUAL REALITY’S KEY NEW ROLE IN FINE ART

 

Artists are the original Virtual Reality pioneers.

 

In the Stone Age, they scraped lines alongside blotches of colour and shade on cave walls and transported their tribe to distant places, bringing them safely face-to-face with magical and terrifying creatures; buffalo, mammoths, fearsome cave bears.

 

More recently, artists accompanied explorers to the far corners of the world, illustrating the insects, animals, landscapes and events of far-off lands. On their return, their images published in books and newspapers were a portal through which domestic audiences travelled to dangerous continents and exotic encounters.

 

Just as lithography and digital image manipulation transformed the capabilities of photography, so the advent of new virtual reality technology offers entirely new ways to create.

 

VR offers the next step in the evolution of fine art.

LOOKINGGLASS VR - KEY INFORMATION​​

With LookingGlassVR, pupils get a unique opportunity to dive into Virtual Reality. Once there, they are guided to create stunning artwork in a way they’d never have dreamed, where they can WALK AROUND and inside their artwork and PAINT in mid-air.

 

LookingGlassVR is a service offered by Theo Williams of Art2VR. Theo hosts in-school workshop sessions for Primary & Secondary School pupils, demonstrating and teaching Virtual Reality Art.

 

In addition to enjoying perhaps their first fully immersive Virtual Reality experience, pupils learn to experiment, create and control their technique, select from a range of drawing and painting materials and tools, choose appropriate colours, mix various styles and media.

 

These learning outcomes are explicit in Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum programmes of art and design study.

 

And they get to paint in STARS and FIRE and RAINBOWS!
